DISCOVERING SCIENTIFIC WONDERS – IN A LORRY

20/03/2014

Alun Ffred Jones, Councillor John Wyn Williams, James Bamford  from the Institute of Physics and pupils from Ysgol Tryfan in the Lab in a Lorry.

Alun Ffred Jones had a science lesson at Ysgol Tryfan, Bangor last week – not actually in the school but in a lorry parked outside. The AM for Arfon had been invited to see some of the pupils taking part in exciting experiments when  ‘Lab in a Lorry’, a project run by the Institute of Physics, visited the school.

With the aid of volunteers from Bangor University the pupils – and the AM – had an insight into the mysterious world of medical optoelectronics, creating spiral rainbows and how to smash a wine glass with sound.

Alun Ffred Jones said: “The pupils were obviously inspired by the thrilled to see these latest advances in physics. I hope this will inspire some of them to take up careers in science, which offers great openings for them and is also vital for the economy.”
